A Kaleidoscope of colour
Nowhere else in the word can you admire the ancient custom of Well Dressing.
The age old custom is unique to the area, and more than 80 towns and villages proudly create and display their floral masterpieces next to wells and water features throughout the spring and summer
Wells Dressing exact origins are unclear, but it is thought to have been introduced by the Romans or Celts, to give thanks for the Peak District’s plentiful fresh water springs.
All of the communities- from school children to grand parents help to produce the stunning outdoor works of art using a range of natural materials.
Most towns and villages see it as the perfect excuse for parties and carnival processions and other events during the weeks celebrations.
Most villages running up to the Wells Dressing week let you go and watch the it being designed and made.
Our own Wells Dressing in Taddington is not until late August (16th – 23rd) and we also now dress the well in Blackwell.
