There are many vibrant villages scattered around Derbyshire, complete with stunning views, attractive architecture and interesting history.

Ashford in the Water

Idyllic setting beside the river Wye, with ancient sheepwash bridge, village shop, pubs and restaurant, plus a cricket pitch where the local team dons its whites on summer Sundays.

Ashover

Attractively-situated village in north east Derbyshire, off the Chesterfield to Matlock road, with award winning pubs, microbrewery, village shop and popular annual agricultural show.

Bradfield

Two friendly villages on Sheffield’s northern doorstep – High Bradfield on the hill and Low Bradfield next to the river Loxley. Medieval church, ice cream farm and close to Strines and excellent walking country.

Castleton

The “Gem of the Peaks” and home to the unique semi-precious stone Blue John. Four show caverns, Peveril Castle, museum and traditional annual Garland Ceremony on May 29th.

Disley

Local shops, restaurants and pubs on the doorstep of Lyme Park and at the start of the 35 miles long Gritstone Trail.

Eyam

Famous “Plague Village” where residents isolated themselves in 1665-6 to prevent the spread of Black Death. Ancient parish church, Jacobean hall with restored gardens, craft centre, Plague Cottages and museum.

Hartington

Clustered around a spacious square and photogenic duck pond. Fine old buildings, gift and other shops, cafes, pubs and a small pottery.

Longnor

Classic cobbled market square and former market hall, now a craft centre and café, plus pubs. Close to some of the most varied walking and cycling in the area.

Ormaston

Archetypical English village with thatched cottages – an unusual sight in the area – village green, pond, saw mill with the original water wheel and landscaped park.

Repton

Former capital of the ancient kingdom of Mercia, with the Anglo-Saxon parish church of St Wystan and it’s 8th century crypt. Local shops, restaurants, tea rooms and pubs.

Prestbury

Picture perfect village in a riverside setting with cosy inns, quality restaurants, bijou galleries and individual shops.

Slaithwaite

Attractive canalside setting, with independent shops selling local produce and a thriving community bakery.
